Regards to the physical characteristics of the Black Bear, in relation to long hair and short tails. The Black Bear cannot use its tail as do other creatures (such as deer, elk or moose) to relay signals in body language. The head, neck, and mouth are used to put forth their message of intent. The positioning of the Bear's head, may one of the most important indicators of a bear's mood and intent. Walking persistently with the head held below the shoulders is likely to result in some type of aggressive behavior. Facial and mouth expressions are used to intimidate one another, including snarling, opening and closing the mouth rapidly while salivating, bearing teeth and making chomping noises often indicate a agitated bear.
