Black Bears are exceptional
swimmers. They can also climb trees at a terrific speed when alarmed,
but will also climb trees to feed on buds and fruit. They have a
unimaginable keen sense of smell, acute hearing, but very poor eyesight.
Black Bears can be seen at any hour of the day, but are most active at
night. When the cubs are very young, they cry when afraid, and hum
when contented.
